Blog Post #2: Font and Comprehension

For my research project, I am interested in studying how font effects an individuals understanding and memory. Recently, I have found that I have an easier time reading a text when it is in a simple font like Times New Roman or Arial. After making this realization, I wondered if other individuals had similar responses to different fonts and font sizes. By researching and finding different articles, I may find information supporting the idea that font plays a role in comprehension.

  1. There is a lack of balance amongst my sources. All of my sources come from journals, so I am lacking viewpoints from other mediums. I found all of my sources on EBSCOhost, so I could probably find my sources on other databases as well.

  2. Hi Taylor,

Looks like you had a good start on your sources, so far. I know you'll be distilling more of your topic interest as you plow through and annotate the sources you've found. At this point, I think it's ok to throw into the mix at least a couple sources from PTW-specific journals (c/o source list on Canvas) to direct your investigation more towards the lens of PTW. After the Lit. Review is done, maybe we can set a quick appointment to brainstorm ideas for your Research Proposal and make the study more beneficial and applicable to practitioners/scholars within our field. (As always, feel free to set an appt. with me anytime if you need help -- am here).

    Keep up the good work!

    Best,

    Dr. B
