I have learned a lot about the process of designing a research study in this class. The first thing that I learned is that it is a lot more complex than it seems. There are so many different aspects to consider when designing a study. One of the most difficult things for me was determining how to gain participants for my study. Without financial incentive it can be difficult to find individuals that are willing to participate, but through the use of the snowball method I think I could acquire enough willing participants. I also found that more steps go into the methodology than I originally thought. You have to notice every small and seemingly insignificant detail for a study to succeed. The methodology of a study is everything.

The processes that I have learned helped me realize that conducting research is one of the most difficult jobs in professional and technical writing. When considering my future roles within this field, I have found that I would be happy in a field not related to research. I am happy to write and design, but creating studies of my own does not seem to be my niche. Moving forward, I know I will be able to accomplish tasks within the research field, but it is not necessarily what I would prefer to do.

  1. Taylor,
I loved your insights on what you have learned from this class pertaining to conducting research. I struggled with the methods of research and design too and I bet it was also challenging because of your research question! I love what you said though, the particular details pay off because it helps establish credibility and a clear direction in your proposal. Great thoughts Taylor! Great job and it was awesome having this class with you!
